About Us
|
Welcome to Fireside Homeschool! We are a family of seven living on
the beautiful east coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, in eastern
Canada. We have homeschooled for 14 years. Our eldest is in his
third year of university, while the other four are still at home
in grades Kindergarten to 7.
We homeschool for many reasons:
- Our goal is to have a strong, healthy
family. We want our family’s
relationship with each other to be one of love, trust and respect.
We want to be “best friends.”
- We are Christians and value the freedom to teach and learn
in an atmosphere that places God above all else.
- We believe our children are unique individuals, created for
a purpose and deserve to be given every opportunity to become
the adults they are meant to be. Because of this, we choose curriculum
that often varies from child to child and at a pace that is right
for each. We learn for the sake of learning, not for a test.
We do not move on until we are ready.
- We want lots of free time for “kids
to be kids.”
School is usually completed in four hours and there is no homework.
Our children have lots of play time and time to spend with grandparents
and other friends. They can also pursue hobbies, sports or music
lessons.
- We enjoy the freedom to choose our school hours. We can spend
a morning out of town sightseeing or visiting and do our schoolwork
later when we return. We sometimes finish in May or study insects
in July. Learning can take place anywhere at anytime in many
ways.
- Last but not least, we love it!
We feel privileged and blessed to homeschool our children and
we eagerly look forward to many more years learning and growing
together.
